Vertical vs Horizontal Scrap Cutting Machine

Same mixed-scrap job — choose by space, feed style and mobility

Home/Guides/Vertical vs horizontal

Both machines in this comparison handle the same broad job: mixed scrap — vertical scrap cutting machine and horizontal scrap cutting machine from Ahmedabad cut TMT, round and square bars up to 25 mm, angles up to 50 × 50 × 5 mm, and take steel, aluminium and plastic. Both run on 1.5 kW (2 HP) three-phase motors at 45 strokes per minute, both have blades rated for four usable positions, and each comes with an Allen key for the blade bolt.

So the decision is not about capacity — it is about cutting direction, floor space, feed style and flats width.

What stays the same either way

Both accept bent and straight input, and both are designed for repetitive cutting duty. Both need a three-phase supply for the 1.5 kW (2 HP) motor — confirm 415 V three-phase is available on site before ordering. And if your mix is mostly TMT bar stock (round bar only), compare the bar scrap cutting machine and the straight bar scrap cutting machine in our buying guide — they may fit your mix at a lower machine weight.

A photo of your scrap pile plus the sizes (bar dia, angle, flat thickness) is enough for a recommendation between the two.

Both cut angles up to 50 × 50 × 5 mm. For flats the vertical machine handles up to 100 × 12 mm and the horizontal up to 80 × 12 mm.

The horizontal machine is wheel mounted and can be repositioned. The vertical machine is a fixed-position machine and is not fitted with wheels.

Both cut TMT, round and square bars up to 25 mm, bent or straight. Maximum open mouth is 55 mm on the vertical and 52 mm on the horizontal machine.

Yes — both are designed for mixed scrap: steel, aluminium and plastic, in bars, angles and flats.
